In my opinion, Ansel Elgort ruined The Fault in Our Stars and I’ve been annoyed by his presence ever since. Until this movie, in which he has redeemed himself with his portrayal of Baby. In fact, nearly everything was amazing about this movie, most specifically the combination of music and film, which Wright does in a way that elevates this particular movie art.*

*This is a movie of pure delight and pure terror.** Jamie Fox was particularly captivating.
**This is also the last time I watched Keven Spacey and thought of him as nothing more than a good actor, rather than a predatory jerk.

Ha! I expected much Ansel Elgort angst in this review. But no!
Yeah, it’s kind of the worst that I can no longer enjoy a Spacey performance. I’ve always liked him as an actor. Now all I see is a predatory, pedophile jerk.
I still have no idea what this movie is about. I feel like I should see it but am just kind of “meh” toward it.
It’s a bank heist film from the “robbers are bad” category. (As opposed to the other bank heist films where robbers are ultimately good people we are rooting for.) Ansel Elgort plays Baby, who has been working off a debt to Kevin Spacey since he was a young man. He drives the cars for the robbery teams Spacey assembles. He’s an excellent driver, who also has tinnitus, which he deals with by constantly listening to music. Baby has nearly paid off his debt to Kevin Spacey and living a life on the straight and narrow, but this being a movie, you know things aren’t going to go as planned.
I would recommend watching it just based on the music/film integration. It ended up as my #3 movie on my 2017 ranked list of movies seen in theaters. No one was more surprised than I at that result.
