Three sentence movie reviews: Star Trek Beyond

star_trek_beyond

A nicely done third installment in the reboot, though I did wince, every time Anton Yelchin was in danger of being crushed.* I enjoyed Sofia Boutella as as Jaylah, as well as the Pine/Quinto Kirk/Spock ongoing relationship. That said, the film vacated my brain soon after leaving the theater.

Cost: $0.40 thanks to Matt’s Regal gift cards.
Where watched: Regal City Center Stadium 12 with Matt

*Which seemed to happen regularly.

  1. We have not seen this yet. I was hoping that we would get to it, but haven’t done so for no good reason. It was on offer a few times but another was selected in its stead.

  2. I loved it! I didn’t like Into Darkness and was supremely skeptical about this one, but thought it was way better than ID. I didn’t notice the almost-crushing while I was watching it, but now then you mention it, yep. But I was very touched that they found ways to honor both Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin. Made me misty eyed.

We were talking to some friends (who hadn’t seen it) the day after we saw it and the guy was scoffing about the motorcycle, saying it looked stupid. We were like, “Trust us, the motorcycle makes sense. But we can’t tell you why because it’s a huge spoiler!” Lol. Don’t know if they ever saw it.

    1. Matt was cranky about the motorcycle too. Something about, “they still wouldn’t have motorcycles then!” But I reminded him that the first of the reboots had a young James T. Kirk stealing his stepdad’s motorcycle.

I liked the placement of the Beastie Boys song.
