I took the day off of work and took myself out to lunch at MÅURICE, which describes itself as a modern pastry luncheonette.
I had a delicious meal that included radishes with fresh butter.
It was a fun thing for my day off.

Postcard from the Adams National Historic Park
Sharon writes that she has been in this library many times, and she marveled that one family could collect so many books.
I have not been to the Adams National Historic Park even though I lived not far from it for several years, and even used to take the train to Quincy to watch movies. I give my time in Massachusetts a C for visiting all the historical sites.

Contorted Quince is No More
I planted the contorted quince in March 2011, and it has bugged me for years. It never produced any quince, and it’s a shrub of the poke-y variety, always grabbing onto my sweater when putting scraps in the worm bin. I have finally dug it up.
It was a project done in stages, a lot of which were my 10-minute breaks during my work day. (Yet another advantage of working from home.)
The plus of the contorted quince was that it was fine with no water. It probably was able to survive the hot summers so well because it had a very strong taproot and auxiliary roots. In the end, I had to get out the saw.
It did have very pretty blossoms early in the spring. But the disadvantages outweighed the advantages.
The other plus of digging out the contorted quince is that I can now put this bag of compost into the hole. It’s been sitting in that spot for more than a year.

It’s not surprising. I was in Boise, and when I’m in Boise, I like to drive around and see how things have changed. The streets are so very wide! And laid out in a grid!
May 8, 2023, Zentangle
This is my last Zentangle in the series. I did a lot of my tangling while waiting for Sentinel to eat his meals. He died, and that time went away . I would like to pick it up again in the future.
I especially enjoyed the more organic tangles I’ve been learning. The top left is Verdigogh, and the top right is Locar. Lower left is Yincut, and lower right is my new favorite Bales.

Writing from the future, I can say this song has been played a lot, and I’m less enamored with it, but speaking from the past, I was excited about it enough to screenshot the name.
The video has a very fun Banksy-inspired theme.
Choir Boy at Portland Center Stage
Matt and I attended Choir Boy. It was a bit of a disappointment. The singing was audible, but we both had to strain to hear the dialogue. I’m not sure why they didn’t mic the actors.
As usual, a good stage from PCS.
Dancin’ Bare is No More
Added to the list of things that didn’t make it through the pandemic: the neighborhood strip club. No more will we see very scantily clad dances sunning themselves out front.
It will be interesting to see what appears on this corner. It’s in a great spot for more housing.
New Sign for the Kenton Rose Garden
Look how pretty it is! It’s metal and it faces in a different direction than the previous one and that direction is better for people to read the sign.
For comparison: here is the old sign. It has been touched up several times over the years, but has a design flaw in that the top part can easily be knocked off (and it has been several times).
