SKS: B&W Humboldt

Sara certainly has moved to an area with a lot of local postcards! This one reminds me of clip art montages, but fancier.

Sara reports that it’s gray and rainy and overcast (a thing that happens in Portland a lot too!) and she reports that it’s also Oscar Sunday and she’s excited to see my picks for the win. She writes that she plans on recording the ceremony and catching up later.

I can tell you from the future that she ended up watching in real time, so she saw the famous slap. We discussed via text and both were frowny face about the whole thing.

SKS: San Francisco

I love the color scheme of this postcard, and the iconography. Sara grabbed it on her way from from San Francisco airport. She was hoping to find an outgoing mailbox in the airport, but did not discover one.

SKS: Smile

The nice orange color made this easy to find in the pile of postcards I need to put on the website.

Sara wonders if the message sounds less patriarchal because it comes from her. She knows that I, like many women, HATE being told by men to smile.

Sara goes on to explain she wanted to send some orangey cheer.

The last line is also fun: And, like a true academic, I used all my space to discuss the patriarchy. Ha!

Orangey cheer accomplished!

SKS: Southern Poverty Law Center

Sara reports that they got this lovely set of postcards in the mail last week.

She also reports that they are in their usual timing for the holiday card and she’s hoping to get it sent in January.

SKS: Oak Woodlands

Sara informs me: It’s a palindrome day—12/1/21! Exciting!

It is exciting! I’m not sure if I properly noticed on the day itself.

This is a fun map.

Sara sends me fun fall break greetings. Sara notes that they didn’t make it to the 2021 mural festival, where this was painted on the side of a building. But the artist did let them vote on the border and Sara voted for rope.

SKS: Ferndale Lantern Press

I love the design of this postcard, and the colors, which are colors I wouldn’t put together.

Sara also mentions that she likes the stylized version of the icons. She writes that she really enjoys the climate of where she lives now.

SKS: Giant Tree

The postcard text on the back says: Aptly named, this is one of the largest living trees on earth. I’m not sure why that tickles me so.

Sara sends me a birthday week greeting and says she’s excited to see what my cake is this year.

SKS: Klamath River Reflections

Sara reports they have been waiting (and waiting) for their solar and HVAC and that it’s been cold in the house because of it.

I also felt it was important to take this picture for reasons I now can’t remember. Perhaps I was enjoying the postmark dovetailed with the subject?

SKS: Redwoods

Sara reports that she has a no-meetings work-from-home day. Hurrah.

Also that she’s ready to be done with the semester, but has two months left to go. Less of a hurrah.
