I don’t disagree, but that doesn’t mean I have $1600.00

O, the Oprah Magazine has this feature every month.  It encourages you to purchase well-made, classic things because it pays off over time.  This month they have a Burberry trench coat.  I love it.  It’s beautiful, and in Portland, Oregon, would be my main coat for three of four seasons.  There’s only one problem.  The cost.

  1. How many times would you have to wear it and for how many years to even make that price work? Burberry is lovely, but you have a point. I think a nice London Fog number at a fraction of the price would do just as well. My ponderment: Is that coat made in China? If so, how much were the workers paid to make it? If it is still made in London/England (fat chance) I would be a bit more okay with a higher price. Even in the mid to upper hundreds. But $1600? Yikes!

  2. I'm with you. The people who write for these magazines obviously don't understand how real people live with real budgets. I've never spent $1,600 on any piece of clothing. I find it hard to believe that I ever would. There have got to be good quality, classic trench coats out there that don't cost this much money.

Are there any budget hunters magazines out there? Lol.
