Three sentence movie reviews: Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Finding a movie that will please myself, my 70-something mother and my boyfriend is a tall order–one that usually involves pre-watching.  I had no time to pre-watch, so I took a deep breath and took my chances and, boy howdy, did it pay off.  This movie is funny (but with no pooping) and sweet (but not too sweet) and tragic (but not too dark) and everyone was quite pleased.

Cost: $4.99 from Amazon
Where watched: at Mom’s house with Mom and Matt

  1. I just saw this last week! I really thought I was going to love it but I didn’t. 🙁 I didn’t hate it; I just didn’t like it as much as I expected to. I think it was more “screwball” than I was anticipating. Oh, I just realized it’s from the same director as “What We Do in the Shadows,” which everyone but me seems to think is hilarious. Well, I liked it better than that movie for sure. And I thought Julian Dennison was fantastic.

    1. Oh alas. Do you think it also might have also been due to our old friend, “increased expectations?”

After watching this, Matt and I watched WWDITS. My second time, his first. It was not as hilarious as I had remembered.

The same director is also doing the next installment of Thor and I’m rather intrigued.

  2. This is a rather fun commentary now knowing this made the best list (2/3 movies viewed) for the month! Good thing it fit the bill since the pre-watch was unavailable. Imagine if I was in the mix (I would guess that your Mom and I, fellow Aquarius/birthday sisters, have a similar profile!).

    1. Yep. You and mom have very similar movie profiles, though she tolerates action movie violence better than you.
