Funny Redistricting Suggestions

Portland is getting a new form of government, and with it comes the task of splitting the city in four districts. FLO Analytics was charged with this task. Part of what FLO offers is a platform so the public can make their own suggestions by creating maps.

This comes in handy because it helps the public see what elements come with trying to make reasonable district boundaries. The app walks potential mapmakers through all the things they need to consider. But sometimes, people just want to be creative, like in these four maps.

I appreciated how all but one mapmaker kept the districts about even in number.

Here’s what the final map looks like. I’m District 2.

Requiem: Crocheted Napkin

Many years ago, my Aunt Carol gave me two crocheted napkins. They’ve been in rotation as my main house napkin ever since. I like how absorbent they are.

But alas, this one has become too holey to serve its purpose any more. So away it must go.

I still have one left, though.

Angel Food Cupcake!

The stars aligned and Matt’s flight from Indianapolis connected through MSP at a time when Angel Food’s airport kiosk was open. And that means I got a cupcake and a donut.

My First Car, Spotted in the Wild

What did I find parked on a street near me during an early morning walk? Why it was a Mustang II.

My first car was a white 1974 Mustang II. I’ve spent the rest of my life explaining that no, it wasn’t a Mustang, it was a Mustang II. Not as cool, but a fun first car nonetheless. We could fit five teenagers in that car. It had an AM radio. That’s where I discovered “the memory station” playing hits from the 40s and early 50s.

Some Googling tells me that the average going rate for a Mustang II is about $20,000.

It’s Not a Pipe, Either

Most houses on Interstate Avenue are set back from the sidewalk, but there are two houses that bump up directly on the sidewalk. They are north of the gas station at Rosa Parks. One of them has been an arty-type place (gallery?) for some time. So someone made a funny.
