SEI classroom signs

I’ve been volunteering with Minds Matter, and we meet at S.E.I. in what appears to be a math and science classroom. The signs on the wall amuse me, so I thought I would share them with you.

I just noticed this one today.  I’m not sure how long it’s been up.

This fraction poster puts me at ease.  Look how nicely all the fractions fit together.IMG_5067

The kind of sign that always annoyed me as a student, yet I never could look away.  Notice how the letters are all color coded, so you can match them up.IMG_5068

I really like these hand-written statements about S.E.I.IMG_5069

    1. From their website:
“Minds Matter Portland is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. Our goal is to equip underprivileged high school students with the tools to gain acceptance to a four-year university and navigate the financial aid process.

“Through these efforts, we watch our students develop as individuals. We introduce them to a world of opportunity outside their familiar neighborhoods and comfort zones. They are more confident of their abilities and eager to succeed. Minds Matter works with motivated students because we believe that no student dedicated to earning a college education should be limited by socioeconomic status.

We have been serving students in the Portland area since 2006.”

Basically they match up a group of kids with mentors, which is one part of the program. The other part (which is what I do) is the juniors do some pretty heavy ACT test prep. So I help them with English/Reading/Social Science test prep.
