Postcards for episodes 4 and 5 arrived in the mail today!
Episode 4 is a Daniel Palladino episode and Ariel wasn’t a fan. Though she did enjoy Michelle Fanny interactions. She gave the episode 5.5/10 semi-stolen toe shoes.
And with Episode 5, we turn a corner. It’s the first episode she’s enjoyed the girls. This also had Fanny’s great Paper or Plastic ballet, which was hilarious. Both Ariel and I enjoyed it. Ariel gives this 6.5/10 psychotic check-out girl ballets.
I think the humor here is that listening to NPR still isn’t cool. But I started listening in 1993, so you can decide for yourself if I listened before it was cool. Or “cool.”
Sara reports that she is back in Arcadia and that this is racing with the postcards coming from Iowa. She said her mom was popping them in the mail on 11/28. We’ve established that Iowa won.
Ariel’s nicely themed postcards about episodes 2 and 3 arrived today.
In short, both episodes had good stuff. But then also they were weird and a little pointless.
I can’t disagree. I don’t remember the episodes feeling so unfocused the first time I watched.
Sara sent two postcards that managed to arrive the same day. This first one gives me a free taco if I bring the postmarked card to Puesto. Judging from their locations, I will not be eating a free taco from Puesto.
This one Sara picked up at NCTE exhibit hall at the national conference. It is from A Perfect Wonderful Day with Friends and the image is from Philip Waechter.
Sara sent these from Iowa, where she was spending Thanksgiving. The postcards are postmarked 11/22 and arrived on 11/25. And that includes a Thanksgiving holiday!!!! There appear to be much better postal routes between the Midwest and Portland than between Northern California and Portland.
This postcard is from an Etsy bonus of something Sara ordered for her parents for Christmas. I really like the artist’s style. (Note that I can freely speak about the present Sara ordered because I’m writing this post the day before the holiday on which they will receive said gift, and the post won’t appear until after the holiday.) (Though she does caution me of doing just such a blog share)
Sara reports that it’s a quiet Saturday at home with rest and home tasks taking precedence over going into work.
Friend Kelly sent me this thank you postcard for a birthday donation I made in her name.
The photo is of Sonja Pernela, who is an artist, or at least was in 2000 when the photo was taken. The photo is by William K. McCanless who, Kelly tells me, is her partner Rob’s BFF.
Sara’s message was written in a gradation of autumn colors. Nicely done!
Sara reports that they went to their favorite out-of-town winery that has a fabulous pizza oven. It sounds delicious!
Aside from the fun pun on the front, there’s a winking owl sticker on the back that says Owlsome Job! Double pun for the win!
Sara reports of her great experience watching a local production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Apparently the cast had COVID illnesses to deal with, but, despite that, their Puck was great and Wall was one of the funniest performances of Wall she had seen.
Sara wishes that I have a lovely four-day week after our three-day weekend. Her hope was that I would receive the postcard during the four-day week, but alas, it arrived at the beginning of the five-day week after the four-day week that was after the three-day weekend.
For their three-day weekend, Sara and Shawn visited Sonoma and had a great time.
You will note that the postmark tells us that this postcard traveled back to Northern California from Idaho before making its way north to Portland. Sara also gives this information with her opening greeting. She reports that it was nice to be back in the Treasure Valley for two weeks.
