SKS Postcard: Bran Castle

Sara sends this treasure from the once-home of Vlad the Impaler.

As I hung out with Hungarians, I knew that though Dracula is supposedly based on Vlad, Bram Stoker never visited. Hungarians can be very touchy about Dracula.

Sara sent this from Arcata because she couldn’t find any Romanian stamps. I also had trouble finding stamps in Romania.

SKS: Postcard from Paris

Sara’s postcard made its way to me quickly! The postmark says June 23 (actually it says 23-06-22 La Poste, but I know how to translate) and it arrived on June 29! Speedy delivery!

I was quite excited to get this composite card. Sara reports that they have visited three of five things depicted: Eiffel Tower (from the ground) Sacré-Cœur, and Notre-Dame, which is under construction after the fire.

She also said that they just finished a canal and Seine boat tour that took them through three locks. This reminded me of the book Just One Day.

SKS: Relax Already

Sara sent this postcard along with an Entertainment Weekly (R.I.P.) and a bunch of People Magazines. Very fun. She said that sending along the magazines was part of her trip prep.

She says that she’s not always sure where to send this card. Also that she has sent it, but hasn’t kept a list of who has already received it.

She sends me a fun challenge to find silly adventures near my home this summer. We shall see.

Postcard from Cousin Ron

Cousin Ron sent me this really great vintage postcard from Florida. I find the composition kind of fascinating. It seems strange to talk about a residential street and then show the actual street. To me, a residential street would show the houses that are located on the residential street. It does look like a very nicely paved street, though.

Ron says that he and Jim drove down to Florida at the end of March, which was a nice break from the Ohio cold, but a long drive that made the trip a bit rushed.

He’s also hoping to come out for a visit this year. That would be fun!

SKS Postcard: Jelly Belly

Well, the streak of series postcards all arriving on the same day has been broken. This is postcard 1 of 3. At least I got the first one first.

Sara first marvels that it is June (Agreed!) and tells about the “sweet detour” she and Shawn took on their way back home. Sara says:

“I’ve been wanting to stop a the factory ever since I knew it was a thing. I mean, how can any child of Mr. Rodgers not enjoy a factory tour?!?”

Agreed. Mr. Rodgers really did a lot in opening our eyes to the wonders of factories.

SKS: San Diego After the Fact

Another 2 of 2 series that arrived on the same day!

Sara opens by asking if I ever buy X number of postcards, not have time to send them, and then get home and wonder who I bought them for.

My answer. Nope. Because they can always be used for Postcrossing.

This is the postcard series where Sara tells me she is going to France and Romania in June. France because her stepmother bought a house, Romania so they can meet up with a friend of Shawn’s.

Do to the mail lag time, this was not the first I’d heard of this. Sara offhandedly mentioned it in a text causing much ????!!!?!?!?!?!Whaaaaaaaaat???????? from me and much, I thought I told you? from her.

Turns out she did, but the message was in transit.

I’ve learned that I will not be taking a work trip to San Diego in January 2023, so these postcards will be my major interactions with that city.

Postcrossing SKS: Cheery and Punny

It’s the rare occurrence where a series of postcards arrive all on the same day!

Sara writes from her first official day of summer, which started on May 19. She did a lot of lovely things including not going into the office. I celebrate that decision.

These punny cards are fun not only for their front message, but also because on the back is cute picture in the area of the stamp, but it’s not covered by the stamp. Alas, I did not take a picture, so you will need to imagine a mouse on one card and a chicken on the other.
