This was hilarious–I knew Will Ferrell was funny, and now I know he also makes a very good straight man. But who knew Mark Wahlberg was so funny? This movie also includes a very clever take on the “drink all night” scene as well as the best role I’ve seen Michael Keaton play in years.

ps: watch all the credits. You will get a good education about what financial reform bought us.

pps: Even if you only watch the opening scene you will laugh. The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson make excellent over-the-top buddy cops.

I liked this movie okay while watching, though it was a little long. The next day I was less enthralled with it. Only my great appreciation for Richard Jenkins inspires the remaining amount of “like.”

Has Sam Mendes ever made a bad movie? I’ve just checked and no, he has not. This one is fabulous too, with great acting and all the reasons in the world not to be in the Marines.

I got this because John Hughes wrote this and I hoped it would be good. Instead, it was incredibly predictable and mediocre. Amy Sedaris was in it, though, which was fun.

I get the point of this move, but man was it long, drawn out and boring. Meryl Streep did her acting thing which was good, but ultimately, this movie was just not that interesting. Sam Neil and Sting briefly (and boringly) appear and if it weren’t for Tracy Ullman I’m not sure I would have made it through the whole thing.

We watched this so Matt could enjoy the perfection of this movie. I was again bedazzled by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the best ever use of a song I don’t like. It lost nothing in a second viewing, and if you haven’t watched it yet, please do.

I’m not the biggest fan of CGI, but this is the kind of movie CGI was made for. An incredibly complex story explained so well you become completely absorbed, it is peopled with fabulous actors and stunning visuals. Fabulous and highly recommended, you can resume breathing after the movie ends.

I really liked this movie and I think it was because it was a humorous drama about tension in a family, yet no character was bad, or stupid, or the obvious one you should hate. In fact, this was the kind of movie family I wouldn’t mind being a part of in real life. This is a nice way to spend two hours, and also a good movie to watch with the often-mentioned church going Grandmother.

Funny in that “heh-heh” way, and very well done by everyone. I particularly enjoyed the songs and obvious setting of place and age via character dialogue a la: “You are the best 14 year old son I could ever ask for.” The DVD extras include a funny feature wherein actual famous musicians pretend Dewy Cox is real.

ps. Dan Bern is a songwriter on some of the songs and there are also THREE actors from The Office in this movie.

Until today, I was not aware that the McMenamins St Johns Theater & Pub was only cooled with a fan, a disappointing fact, as I was seeking air conditioning. Still, this was a good enough movie, that I didn’t mind sweating in the dark with random people, rather than at home alone. Who knew dragons were so much like kitties?
