Three sentence movie reviews: Ex Machina

All hail this movie about AI and women and perhaps being a little shortsighted in the creation process. All three main actors (and also the fourth one no one mentions) bring their best to this tense drama, with Oscar Isaac once again pointing out that he’s got this whole acting thing down.  Highly discussable, this was a great date movie, and one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

Cost: $8.00
Where watched: Hollywood Theatre with Matt.

  1. Shawn saw this and really enjoyed it. It is NFS. But I am guessing it will be on best picture/academy award lists from everything I have heard about.

    1. It was so good and deserves to be on those lists. I worry that it came out too early in the year to be remembered by December, but perhaps.

  2. My friend and I went to see this with our husbands. We ladies liked it, the men did not, which I thought was interesting (Dan felt it was too long for the amount of story involved). Did Matt like it? At any rate, I agree with your review. The fate of a certain character (not Oscar Isaac’s) still haunts me, months after I saw the film.

    1. Matt really liked it too. I thought it would make a good essay companion for the movie “Her” which so many (male) critics loved and which I thought was rather boring. The dude was surprised that his female-voiced OS was talking to 64 people at the same time as him? Guess what? She’s a computer, not a woman who has been trained to defer to you. There was no big reveal in that movie for me, I mean really, what did he expect?
