Everyone looks so unhappy in that photo, it seems an odd choice for an “official” pic. I know that, way back in the day, they didn’t tend to smile in photos (perhaps because it took so long to shoot them?). I wonder when that changed. Seems like it would’ve been long before this photo was snapped. I like the colorization of it, though. Dad’s tie is pretty snazzy.
Smiling in photos was a thing when Elvis went into the military. I wonder if they decided not to smile because of the seriousness of him serving his country. I’ve noticed that a smile in an official military photo is a very rare thing. Mostly they look very solemn and full-soldier.
That is a rad tie.
