While I don’t think this is the best movie I’ve watched this year, it may be my favorite movie of the year. The retelling of Maleficent’s story is bold, in a way that few movies about women are. It also introduces the trauma story into the fairy telling narrative, which opens the door for children to be able to talk about pain in a way they haven’t before.
Cost: $4.00
Where watched: The Academy Theater with Matt.

Dan wanted to see this. I was reluctant – I'm not particularly big on Angelina Jolie – so we didn't go. Your review makes it sound very interesting, though. I think I'll have to see it!
I would guess the costumes are amazing. It seems that it might even pass the Bechdel test. I've been reading more feminist retellings of fairy tales for class and it is very interesting.
