Three sentence movie reviews: The Imitation Game

imitation_game

A nicely done movie that hits all the points: acting, story, character development, costuming.  Everything clicked along just fine and then the movie was over.  There was nothing to dislike, but its competence made it rather a bland affair.

Cost: free from Hoopla (Multnomah County Library’s streaming service)
Where watched: at home, while sick.

  1. Hmmm…I really liked the kind of quiet slow unfolding. I felt like it added to the tragic nature of the protagonist’s life story. And, as you say, the costumes are quite nice (though in a seemingly muted and quiet color palette).

  2. I saw this movie in the theater & thought it was really well done. However, I can’t say that I’ve thought about it for a single second since then, so I think your sense that it’s not exactly earth-moving is fair. Also, I didn’t think Knightley did anything special enough in it to warrant the award nominations she got.
