Three sentence movie reviews: An Officer and a Gentleman

Part of the Ruby Oliver Film Festival

From a feminist perspective, this was interesting viewing, as you get the traditional fairy tale* story and also the feminist tale of a woman striving to break glass ceilings.  Of course, the feminist story is merely a subplot, but I’ll take it.  The sex scenes were pretty hot and overall it went in directions I didn’t think it would go, so I was pretty happy with this flick.

Cost: free from library
Where watched: at home.

*I knew the ending of this before I started watching it, due to it being referenced fairly often as a “good movie ending”

  1. As I think I told you, I don't remember much about this movie other than not liking it. I wonder if it's one of those films that deserves a second chance. Perhaps it's one of those films you appreciate better when you're more mature.

  2. One of my favorites. The great fairy tale ending like Pretty Woman. Some have seen it as a classic while others say it has not stood the test of time. MOM

  3. It's funny, I thought I had seen this, perhaps in the theater. But with it coming out in 1982, it is unlikely I would have seen it in the theater at age 7, being a rated R movie and all. So I guess I have seen parts of it on TV or even just some of the iconic bits that are more cultural reference than anything else.
