Three sentence movie reviews: Damsels in Distress

The preview promised a movie full of quirky characters, plus Greta Gerwig and that big-eyed Analeigh Tipton* and it delivered on all counts.  But I think the problem was that the quirky was turned up entirely too high and Greta Gerwig’s character was so buttoned down that even when things fell apart she didn’t have very far to go.  Overall, I found it to be tedious and disappointing.

  1. I wonder if you loved Frances Ha so much that anything else Greta Gerwig is in will just be a disappointment?

    1. I am starting to suspect that is the case. There’s a new Baumbach/Gerwig out this weekend, so I will get to test that theory once again. Interestingly, the 5th Avenue Cinemas, the PSU student-run theater, played this movie last weekend. So someone appreciates this movie.

  2. Quirky is usually so fun. But too much can be too much! Too bad, in this case, with all the ladies in the house!
