  1. Huh, I didn't know there was anywhere actually called Metropolis. I did a little web sleuthing to see if it's always been named Metropolis (which I highly doubt) but can't seem to find the information anywhere. The city website is very cagey about it & other sites (like Wikipedia) just copied the information off their site. It used to be Fort Massac. I suspect they changed it as a marketing ploy in 1972, when they declared themselves the "Hometown of Superman" (which doesn't make sense because he grew up in Smallville but I digress).

  3. Sara, the distance between you in the Twin Cities and southern Illinois feels like an eternity! The drive is very boring and the roads are bad… Might I suggest a venture north to Bemidji. But, do it before the snow falls! Because Minnesota winters are VERY snowy!
